A message to our dedicated ReStore volunteers

Wichita Habitat for Humanity has consistently relied on the helping hands of volunteers to drive our mission forward. These dedicated community members impact nearly every facet of the organization. Just as the construction core volunteers are vital to maintaining the volume of homes built each year, another group is making a massive difference in a different department.

In the beginning, ReStore Wichita operated without a central group of core volunteers. The shift began a few years ago when a couple of committed individuals started showing up weekly to lend a hand. Their ongoing dedication laid the groundwork for what would become a highly successful volunteer program.

We learned a valuable lesson from these early contributors. When community members want to help on a regular basis, the best strategy is mutual connection. By getting to know the volunteers and allowing them to understand the store’s needs, leadership helps each person find their specific niche within the store.

Today, that personalized approach has grown into a dedicated team of eight core volunteers. They are involved in almost every aspect of the store’s operations. Their daily contributions are critical to the success of ReStore Wichita, covering essential tasks such as:

• Data Entry: Keeping systems organized and up to date.
• Pricing: Accurately evaluating incoming donations.
• Cleaning: Ensuring our ReStore remains pristine for shoppers.
• Merchandising: Creating appealing displays on the sales floor.
• Testing: Guaranteeing electrical and mechanical items work properly.

The immense contributions of our ReStore core volunteers cannot be understated. They elevate the daily operations and make ReStore Wichita a better place for both staff and shoppers.
