Remembering
President Carter
1924-2024
A lifetime of dedication
A champion of humanitarianism, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter to hold the office, has profoundly impacted the world. His enduring legacy includes his tireless work with Habitat for Humanity, a powerful testament to his commitment to improving lives. For over four decades, President Carter and Mrs. Carter have dedicated themselves to selfless service, inspiring generations.
In 1984, a pivotal moment occurred when former U.S. President Jimmy Carter joined a Habitat for Humanity construction site in Americus, Georgia. This experience sparked the creation of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, an annual initiative where the Carters lead volunteers in building and improving homes alongside Habitat homeowners.
Throughout the years, the Carters have dedicated themselves to Habitat's mission, traveling globally to lend their time and support. They have worked alongside an impressive 104,000 volunteers in 14 countries, contributing to the construction, renovation, or repair of 4,390 homes.
Habitat for Humanity empowers families and individuals to achieve the dream of homeownership. Through a partnership with volunteers, homeowners contribute to the building of their own homes while also making affordable mortgage payments. As we celebrate the enduring legacy of President Carter, we recognize his inspiring commitment to building hope, one home at a time. His unwavering dedication, along with Mrs. Rosalynn Carter, has motivated millions and strengthened communities worldwide.
Continuing his legacy of service
President Jimmy Carter's life serves as a powerful example of how individuals can make a profound difference in the world. His commitment to humanitarian causes extend beyond building homes and has inspired countless people to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand.
Our vision at Habitat is a world where everyone has a safe and affordable place to live and call their home. We can continue to honor President Carter's legacy by supporting our local Habitat for Humanity through volunteering at one of our build sites, shopping at ReStore Wichita, or contributing to building more safe and affordable homes for families in need.
