WHAT: GAF, North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, will join forces with Wichita Habitat for Humanity on Wednesday, April 16th to help provide a new roof for a local family in need. GAF employees from across the country, including members of GAF’s Center for the Advancement of Roofing Excellence (CARE) team, will volunteer to support Habitat staff in much needed home repairs including replacing the roof and the home’s siding, repairing the rear deck, and installing new gutters. GAF will also be donating all of the roofing materials for the work.
Mr. Griffin, the recipient of the roof, has been in his Wichita home since 1971. He lives with his wife, who is living with dementia, a son, and several grandchildren. For years, Mr. Griffin faced significant challenges with his home’s condition, most notably a threatened insurance cancellation due to the state of his roof. “We look forward to getting these repairs done on our home,” shared Mr. Griffin. “We know these repairs will make our lives better.”
Because of GAF and Wichita Habitat for Humanity’s commitment to replace his roof, Mr. Griffin anticipates he’ll be able to maintain his insurance coverage which will allow him and his family to stay in their home and community of more than 50 years.
This work is part of GAF’s social impact initiative, GAF Community Matters, which is focused on making a positive difference as neighbors and partners in the community by leveraging roofing expertise, resources and products to help build resilient communities.
GAF recently announced plans to build a state-of-the-art shingle factory that will create new, good-paying jobs and support the greater Newton, Kansas area through meaningful community involvement. Construction of the facility is expected to begin this summer with production anticipated to begin in 2027 and reach full production capacity by mid 2029.
Local press are invited to attend and capture the roof installation. Interviews are available with the Griffin family, GAF volunteers, and Wichita Habitat for Humanity team members.
