‘Tis the Season: A Game-Changing Holiday Display

The holiday season is upon us, and ReStore Wichita brought cheer to this year’s Mark Arts’ Holiday Tables, presented by Designing Women. The “Game On – Tables that Build Dreams” display was a hit, captivating visitors with its playful theme and creative use of repurposed materials, which ReStore Wichita took home first-place in this year’s corporate and non-profit category!

This year’s theme celebrated the heart of the holiday season: gathering with loved ones and creating lasting memories. As visitors stepped into ReStore Wichita’s display, they were transported to a whimsical space filled with games, laughter, and the warmth of togetherness. This unique tablescape, designed by Christine Moser, community outreach manager, and Katie Frank, development director, highlighted the importance of community and the role our homes play in fostering these connections. “We are so privileged to participate in this great event which gives back to the Wichita art community,” says Christine Moser. “It’s fantastic exposure for Wichita Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore.”

This thoughtful sourcing is what truly brings the magic to life. Nearly everything you see, from the furniture and decorations to the game pieces themselves, has been given a new life thanks to ReStore Wichita. Many vintage board games found new life throughout the display, while carpet pieces were meticulously cut and assembled to form colorful puzzle pieces on the floor. Even the game pieces and decorations were rescued treasures from ReStore’s collections and other donations in our community.

One delightful exception was the whimsical rocking moose nestled amongst the tablescape. This handcrafted gem was crafted by Don Martinson, a long-time supporter of Wichita Habitat for Humanity. Every element, from repurposed materials in the display to Don’s artistic contribution, told a story of sustainability, community, and the spirit of the holidays.
