Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, 100, dies

Wichita Habitat for Humanity is heartbroken to learn of the passing of President Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, who devoted his life to advocating for human rights and supporting Habitat for Humanity’s mission being a champion and strong voice for affordable, decent housing for all. He was 100 years old.

After leaving the White House, President and Mrs. Carter found meaningful ways to continue their dedication to social justice. Their first volunteer experience with Habitat for Humanity was in March 1984 near their home in Americus, Georgia, where Habitat for Humanity was founded. Their commitment to building homes and communities continued for decades, including the creation of the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. This initiative brought together over 100,000+ volunteers from around the world to help provide decent, affordable housing to those in need.

We are forever grateful for his unwavering service to others and the lasting impact that President Carter and Mrs. Carter have made on communities worldwide.
