Wichita Habitat for Humanity receives $37,680 grant from Lowe’s to support home repair projects in Wichita
WICHITA, KS (November 22, 2024)— Wichita Habitat for Humanity announced today it has received a $37,680 grant from Lowe’s to provide critical home repairs that threaten the health, safety, and accessibility of homeowners in Wichita.
The funding will support Wichita Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to make homes safer and healthier and create stronger communities. With the support of the grant, Wichita Habitat for Humanity’s Home Repair Program will work on seven homes in the community to undergo critical home repairs and improvements. These repairs will include replacing siding and porches, repainting exteriors, installing new roofs, and addressing plumbing and electrical issues to ensure safety and code compliance. Additionally, the team members and volunteers will clean up debris and restore a sense of dignity and pride to the homes.
“We are deeply grateful to have been awarded this grant from Lowe’s and for the opportunity to advance the mission of Wichita Habitat for Humanity,” said Jodi Suhler, Wichita Habitat for Humanity’s home repair manager. “This generous support empowers us to continue our work in providing affordable housing to families in Sedgwick County, helping us make a lasting impact in the community.”
Wichita Habitat for Humanity’s Home Repair Program serves over 30 families each year, focusing on essential health and safety concerns, accessibility modifications for seniors and people with disabilities, housing code compliance, and safeguarding the overall structural integrity of the residence. By providing comprehensive repairs, the program empowers homeowners to age in place with dignity and security in their own homes. This not only benefits them but also helps preserve valuable affordable housing options within the community, contributing to a thriving environment for all.
The funding is part of Lowe’s two-year, $6 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International to support home repair and preservation efforts in owner-occupied homes. This year, funding will help 110 local Habitat affiliates to complete 295 projects and impact nearly 700 families across the U.S. Since 2003, Lowe’s and Habitat have worked together to help more than 18,000 people build or improve a place to call home.
