A Home Run for Wichita: Wichita Wind Surge joins Wichita Habitat for Humanity to build homes and hope
The Minnesota Twins and the club’s six minor league affiliates, including the Wichita Wind Surge, recently announced plans for their fourth annual “Minnesota Twins Week of Service” held from May 7-14.
The 2025 Week of Service will involve players, coaches, clubhouse personnel and front office staff from the Twins and each of Minnesota’s minor league affiliates volunteering in their respective local communities. Wichita Habitat for Humanity is thrilled to be teaming up with our Double-A baseball team, the Wichita Wind Surge, to bring some much-needed revitalization to a block of homes in northeast Wichita! This exciting partnership is sure to be a home run for our community!
This incredible collaboration is part of our “Rock the Block Piatt” initiative, a vital undertaking that will see 16 formerly public housing units transformed into safe, affordable homes for local families. These houses hold so much potential, and with the support of our dedicated partners and volunteers like the Wind Surge, we can truly unlock the potential and create lasting change in the lives of our future homeowners.
The Wind Surge players, coaches, and staff will be joining us on-site on Tuesday, May 13 to work on the rehabilitation of one of these homes. Their commitment to our community extends far beyond the baseball diamond, and we are deeply grateful for their willingness to get hands-on with this rehabilitation project.
Our Rock the Block initiatives are more than just building houses in Sedgwick County; it’s about building hope and opportunity. By providing affordable homeownership, we empower families to achieve stability, build equity, and create a brighter future. This partnership with the Wichita Wind Surge amplifies our efforts and brings a new level of energy and enthusiasm to this initiative.
We believe that everyone deserves a decent place to live, and this collaboration demonstrates the power of community coming together to make that vision a reality. Just as the Wind Surge strives for excellence on the field, we are striving to build strong foundations for families right here in Sedgwick County.
Stay tuned for updates on the progress of the rehabilitation of these homes. We cannot wait to share the impact this partnership will have on our community. Together with the Wichita Wind Surge and the Twins, we are hitting it out of the park for affordable housing!
