Wichita Habitat for Humanity's Home Repair Program partners with income-eligible homeowners experiencing critical interior and exterior issues that threaten the health, safety, and accessibility of their homes. These repairs can address deferred maintenance, sudden damage, or everyday wear and tear.
Our focus is on essential health and safety concerns, accessibility modifications for seniors and people with disabilities, housing code compliance, and safeguarding the overall structural integrity of the residence.

By providing comprehensive repairs, the program empowers homeowners to age in place with dignity and security in their own homes. This not only benefits them but also helps preserve valuable affordable housing options within the community, contributing to a thriving environment for all.
Types of Repairs
Critical Repairs
roof and gutter repair or replacement, upgrading electrical systems, replumbing, repair or replacement of windows
Minor Repairs
minor electrical, plumbing, and water heater replacement, HVAC repair or replacement, siding and paint
Accessibility
ramps, grab bars, bathroom modifications, and other accessibility accommodations within the scope of work
Other Home Preservation
energy efficiency upgrades, tree hazards and site cleanup
What we don't cover:
Wichita Habitat for Humanity does not perform upgrades, repairs, or replacements on the following: foundation, fences, aesthetic (non-critical) home improvements, home expansions, repairs to mobile homes, detached sheds or garages.
We are not an emergency repair program.

How to Request Assistance
1. Request for Assistance
Submit a Request for Assistance form online or by mail below. This request is your opportunity to tell us about yourself and your home repair needs.
2. Habitat Follow-up
Once we receive your Request for Assistance, we will review your submission and contact you with further questions or requests for more information and required documentation.
3. Home Inspection
We will contact you to schedule an inspection of your home to evaluate whether the rpeairs needed will qualify for the program.
4. Next Steps
If your home qualifies, you will be invited to submit an application and the required documentation. Your application will be evaluated to determine eligibility for the program and whether you qualify for grant assistance and/or a zero percent (0%) interest loan to cover all or a portion of the cost of repairs. Details about a loan with Wichita Habitat for Humanity:
Loans are available for home repair needs in Sedgwick County. The zero percent (0%) interest loan will be paid in equal monthly installments over a period of one (1) to 15 years. We are committed to working with qualified applicants to determine the loan amount and term that best suits their needs.

Eligibility Requirements
Wichita Habitat for Humanity has requirements that you must meet in order to be eligible for repair assistance. Please be advised that the following list does not include all requirements for this program and it is subject to change at any time at the discretion of the program's administration.
- Be the owner and occupant of a home in Sedgwick County
- The home must be on a permanent foundation
- Provide valid Kansas driver license and proof of citizenship or legal residency for each adult applicant
- All persons on the deed must agree to participate
- Household income cannot exceed 100% of Area Medium Income (AMI)
- Must be current on mortgage payments, property taxes, and all utility payments
- Must have homeowners insurance or a recent denial letter (within the last 90 days) from the insurance company with an explanation of denial (You may be eligible for assistance.)
- Demonstrate a need for home repair
- Demonstrate a willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity through a minimum of six (6) hours of sweat equity (Hours of sweat equity determined by size of project.)
- Demonstrate the ability to repay all or part of a zero-percent (0%) interest loan (if you do not qualify for grant assistance for 100% of the project cost)
- Allow Wichita Habitat for Humanity to do a whole house assessment to evaluate the need for repairs based on Minimum Housing Quality Standards (All rooms in the home and the area around the exterior must be accessible and visible for an inspection.)
If the inspection reveals that the repairs go beyond the Home Repair Program's scope, your property may not be eligible.
