Empowering Families for Tomorrow
This year, we built hope, stability, and a place to call home.
From the transformative revitalization efforts at Rock the Block Piatt to welcoming families into homes across the city, Wichita Habitat's mission was in full motion.
This year, we expanded our reach and made history together when we launched the ambitious gut-rehabilitation project in northeast Wichita called "Rock the Block Piatt." Our mission is to transform neighborhoods once characterized by boarded-up houses into vibrant communities. By making targeted investments, we aim for these homes to stand as beacons of hope for our city.
Behind every statistic is a family, a future, and a stronger community taking shape.

It takes a village
It takes a village to build homes, communities, and hope. Our volunteers dedicate invaluable time to manual labor, committee planning, and advocacy, ultimately turning empty frames into homes and individual houses into flourishing neighborhoods.
Throughout 2025, the Wichita Habitat for Humanity community demonstrated an unwavering commitment to this mission. Serving as the driving force behind everything we do, they dedicated their time, skills, and energy to ensure that affordable housing becomes a reality for more families in our community.

Putting our voices into action
Wichita Habitat for Humanity continues its dedicated advocacy to champion affordable housing solutions across Kansas, guided by a mission to increase homeownership supply, ensure equitable access, and improve community resilience.
In January, staff, board members, and volunteers traveled to Topeka for the third annual Dome Day at the State Capitol. Joining forces with four other Habitat affiliates, the team met with key state leaders, including Lt. Governor David Toland, the Kansas Department of Commerce, and the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation. Together, we highlighted the critical need for accessible housing and navigated discussions around federal funding freezes, ensuring lawmakers understood exactly how these funds directly impact low-income families. This advocacy is especially urgent considering that one in eight Kansas households currently spends more than half of their income on housing.

This momentum carried into August with the fifth annual Legislative Build, a milestone two-day event designed to connect policymakers with the people and purpose behind the mission. Bringing together over 20 housing advocates, local officials, state representatives, and school board members, attendees engaged in hands-on construction alongside family partners at Rock the Block Piatt to help revitalize 16 homes in northeast Wichita.
By stepping onto the build site, elected officials witnessed firsthand the transformation that safe and affordable homes provide for families and neighborhoods. This immersive experience successfully educated local leaders, equipping them to return to the legislative floor and their respective organizations ready to advocate for policies that directly address the affordable housing crisis.
