Celebrating 40 Years of Building Community

Made possible by you: our volunteers, our advocates, and our neighbors.

A Brighter Future for Every Family

For four decades, Wichita Habitat for Humanity has been dedicated to a single mission: building strength and stability through affordable homeownership. While our methods adapt to the changing needs of our community, our principles remain timeless.
From constructing new homes for first-time buyers to performing critical repairs that preserve existing neighborhoods, we work alongside residents to create long-term security. Grounded in love and driven by a daily promise to our neighbors, we continue our work to ensure every family has a safe place to call home.

The Roots of Habitat

A history founded in principle, driven by progress, and focused on families.

Where it all began.

Although Habitat for Humanity International was formally established in 1976, the foundation of our “partnership housing” model was laid decades prior. The story begins in 1942 at Koinonia Farm, a pioneering interracial community in Georgia dedicated to equality and shared living.

The birth of the partnership model.

It was here that the "Fund for Humanity" emerged, a revolutionary plan where families worked with volunteers to build homes at cost, repaying no-interest loans to fund future projects. This philosophy of offering "a hand up, not a hand out" inspired Millard and Linda Fuller to expand this local experiment into the global organization we know today.

Our roots in Wichita.

When we were founded in October 1986, our goal was simple: simple, decent housing. Over the decades, we've cemented our promise to be a partner the Wichita area can count on for the long term.

Growing our impact.

  • 1986: Wichita Habitat for Humanity is founded.
  • 2003: The first ReStore opens in Wichita, turning donated goods into funding for homes.
  • 2014: Rock the Block was launched, focusing on infill development in the A. Price Woodard Neighborhood.
  • 2026: We celebrate 40 years of service, operating from our hub on Opportunity Drive and empowering hundreds of local families to achieve affordable homeownership.

Never stop building.

Our strength comes from serving the people who live and work right here in our community. Whether you are a volunteer, a donor, or a family working toward homeownership, your partnership is the foundation of our success.
That shared commitment has steered us since 1986, and it will continue guiding us as we shape the next 40 years.
Thank you for building with us.
