Walls tell a story of a community’s love, support

Can you imagine going to sleep every night, surrounded by prayers and messages of love shared by the volunteers who helped you build your home? That’s something that future Habitat homebuyer Arnetta and her daughter will experience when they move into their home in the spring!

Construction began on Arnetta’s affordable Wichita Habitat home during our MLK Day of Service on January 20. It was held indoors, in the Bob Brown Expo Hall at Century II. More than 200 people came out to help frame the walls of the home that will provide the family with the stability and independence that comes from having a permanent home. After about two hours of hammering and setting the walls in place, volunteers grabbed Sharpies and shared messages of love, blessings, and encouragement with the family. Arnetta and her daughter were able to witness this outpouring of love and it’s a memory they’ll hold forever. You can read some of the heartfelt wishes below.

Yes, these studs will need to be covered with drywall and siding, However, Arnetta and her family will always know that they are surrounded by love and that many people worked with them to make their dream come true!
