A reliable car. A savings account. Neighbors who are friends.
These are the life changes Cherity’s family has experienced since becoming Wichita Habitat for Humanity homeowners 5 and a half years ago. “Having this house has changed everything,” Cherity says.
The family moved constantly before purchasing their Habitat home. “My kids never had a home. They never had a street where they could play with their friends. They have that now.”
“This home is teaching my children how to become good men,” Cherity says. “You can’t do that unless you have a basic foundation and Habitat gave us that.” Son Tristan agrees. “This house has provided us with so many opportunities.” Tristan is a 17-year-old high school junior taking college courses and a member of the National Honor Society. “This house is what lets us be happy.”
The family’s appreciation of Habitat’s work didn’t end when they moved into their home. Cherity and Tristan regularly volunteer on our build sites. “I love this program,” Cherity says. It’s a joy to volunteer alongside families working to improve their lives. “This is a hand up, not a hand out,” she says.
